Mechanical Splice Cable Laid Sling / Cable Laid Grommet

Cable Laid Slings are constructed from 7 individual galvanized ropes “cabled” together. This makes a very flexible sling for special applications.

Standard: IMCA M179

The construction of the unit rope should be six or eight strands as specified in either ISO 2408 or EN

12385-4, right- or left hand lay. For core unit ropes also seven strands can be used. All unit ropes

should have a steel core. Compacted or deformed unit ropes are not allowed to be used.

The breaking load of unit ropes up to 60mm diameter should be calculated in accordance with the

method given in ISO 2408 and for larger ropes EN 12385-4 will be applicable

1 Rated Capacities are based on a D/d ratio of >5:1 for the body and sling eye.
2 Rated Capacity are based on a D/d ratio of >5:1 for the body of the sling and eye and choking angle greater than 135°. See page
D/d Ratio and the Effect on Sling Capacity, Choker Hitches and Design Factor and Sling Tags for details.
3 Cable Construction 7 x 7 x 7.
4 Cable Construction 7 x 7 x 19.
ALL sling angles refer to the HORIZONTAL angle. See page Centre of Gravity (CG) and Sling Angles and Angularity Factors for details.

Cable Laid grommet slingspictures of Cable laid slings

These smooth and very flexible slings are made from cut lengths of cable-laid fabric that is machine-formed by laying six wire ropes in a helical pattern around a core rope.

Flemish eye mechanical splices, secured by swaged metal sleeves, provide centerline pull at the eyes. They are more flexible, and the same capacity as single-part slings. Ideal for use as basket or choker hitches, where flexibility and ease of handling are essential, and cutting or abrasion is not a critical factor.

* Rated capacities basket hitch based on D/d ratio of 10 or greater.
Rated capacities based on pin diameter no larger than the natural eye width or no less than the nominal sling diameter.
Rated capacities based on design factor of 5.
Horizontal sling angles less than 30 degrees shall not be used.
** See Choker Hitch Rated Capacity Adjustment.
