What is Swaged Wire Rope?
Swaged wire rope is made by compacting regular wire rope into a smaller, denser diameter. Density is key, because the higher weight per foot is what produces the increased strength and toughness you get with swaged wire rope.

Who Uses Swaged Wire Rope?
For us, the biggest market is logging although swaged wire rope is used by folks in various industries all over the world. Swaged wire rope–and Impact Swaged Wire Rope, which is even more stout–holds up extremely well to rough, rugged use. It really shines in skyline, guyline, dropline and drumline applications. This is not only due to its strength, but also because it is smoother and therefore spools better and is less prone to abrasion.

What are the Swaged cable ends?

Swage cable ends are wire rope components other than swage or stop sleeves, that are attached to the wire by compressing, (swaging) the fitting on to the wire. When swaged properly, most wire rope fittings can hold up to 100% of the wire strength, thus allowing assemblies to meet the various working load limits required on assemblies that must be proof load tested. These fittings can be utilized on a wide variety of cable assemblies with many uses. Common types of swage fittings are plain balls (BAS or NAS-949 type), single shank balls, (MS20664 type), stake eyes, aircraft and marine swage eyes and fork ends (MS20668 and MS20667 type.).

We also provide swageless terminals, which achieve the same aim, except they are manually hand-fitted rather than being machine driven liked swaged terminals. However a swageless terminal may not be as strong. Although they do allow fitting whilst on site.

Swaged Terminals

Terminals are types of wire rope fittings which must be fitted to a wire-rope by a professional as specialist machinery is required. A terminal is machine pressed onto the very end of a wire-rope using many tonnes of pressure to ensure a professional and secure connection. Terminals are used for the connection of wire rope to a fixing point for securing, and are commonly utilised together with turn-buckles and rigging screws.
Available from 3mm to 10mm in stainless or 3mm to 20mm in machined mild steel all of which can be pressed by our skilled team on our own presses.
